FIREFIGHTERS from across the county were sent to tackle a blaze at a thatched property.

Crews from Taunton, Ilminster, Wellington, Bridgwater, Somerton, Yeovil and Street were sent to Newport Road, North Curry, at around 6.50pm yesterday evening (October 14).

"On arrival crews discovered smoke logging in the loft area of the address with no external signs of fire," said a Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson.

"Crews got to work with two thermal imaging cameras and a gas monitor.

"This fire was then discovered to be confined to the wood burning stove.

"Crews got to work with chimney gear at the hearth and monitoring the roof space with the thermal imaging camera. The top of the chimney was being monitored from the external scaffolding."
