A LONG-serving primary school teacher has been recognised as excellent.

Jordan Meaker, Year 6 teacher at Nether Stowey Primary School, has been awarded the National Teaching Award Certificate of Excellence.

Jordan has taught at the school for 13 years and is a member of the school's senior leadership team and head of maths.

For the past two years he has been an NCTEM specialist one day a week in order to provide training and guidance on teaching Maths at other schools across Somerset.

"We are really proud of his outstanding contributions he has made to the school and to all the children he has taught," said headteacher at the school, Chloe Holt.

"Every year, one of the main sadnesses expressed by our Year 6 when they leave is that they will miss having Mr Meaker as their teacher.

"We are so proud that his achievements have been recognised."
