A CASH boost of £15,000 is set to help the homeless in Mendip.
The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government awarded Mendip District Council (MDC) the funding through The Next Steps Accommodation Programme (NSAP).
The grant will allow the council to provide a short-term bed for people who are sleeping rough in the district.
Councillor Richard Pinnock, portfolio holder for housing services and governance, said: "We are pleased to receive this grant which will enable us to provide a much needed and creative living space for people sleeping rough in the area.”
MDC and the rest of the Somerset districts launched the Somerset Homelessness and Rough Sleeper Strategy 2019-2023 in March 2020.
The strategy works closely with the community to intervene and prevent homelessness in Somerset.
In November 19, it was estimated that there was 13 people sleeping rough in Mendip.
