AVID readers will be able to beat the lockdown at an independent Taunton bookshop.

Brendon Books will continue trading at its store in Bath Place, albeit behind closed doors.

From Thursday, the shop will be open for collection from the door between 10am and 4pm.

And there will be a home delivery service in the TA1 and TA2 postcode areas.

The business will also post books out at cost to any UK address.

To order or reserve books from Thursday (November 5), e-mail brendonbooks@gmail.com or via the website or by phoning 01823 337742.

Brendon Books' Christmas catalogue is available to collect from the door or request a copy free of charge in the post.

Lionel Ward, of Brendon Books, said: "We realise that there is no substitute for browsing a bookshop.

"However, in addition to our Christmas catalogue, in this weekly newsletter over the coming weeks we will be sending out additional lists of selected books across a range of topics as well as information on our range of Christmas cards.

"We value the support our customers have given us during this extraordinary year and we hope to continue to offer as comprehensive a service as possible right through the lockdown period."

Meanwhile, from today until Wednesday inclusive, the shop is open as usual between 9.15am and 5.30pm for collection and borrowing, with social distancing restrictions in place.
