A VILLAGE in West Somerset has been raising money so they can have Christmas lights this year.
Porlock’s community soup and meals days - which are usually held to raise money for the Christmas trees and lights – was cancelled this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
So organisers of the event asked the community for donations and ran a Light Up Porlock for Christmas campaign.
Now, enough money has been raised to buy 50 Christmas trees and lights to decorate the high street.
Decorations are already being put up in Porlock, thanks to David Hancock, his village maintenance team and members of the Christmas Tree Gang.
Due to coronavirus restrictions, the lights wont be switched on until December 5.
Residents in the town are being encouraged to put up their own festive lights – and even the public toilets are having a festive makeover.
