PARENTS and carers have been told their children must self-isolate at home after a confirmed case of coronavirus was found in a Weymouth school.

All Saints CE Academy told parents and carers in a letter sent out on Friday, November 20 that a confirmed positive result had come back for someone in the Year 10 bubble.

As a result, all pupils in the Year 10 bubble must now self isolate until Saturday, November 28. They have been told that, provided they don't develop any symptoms, the pupils can return to school on Monday, November 30.

The letter stated: "We have been made aware that we have a confirmed case of coronavirus (COVID-19) at All Saints CE Academy.

"We have followed the national guidance and liaised closely with the Department for Education, Dorset Council, Public Health England and Ambitions Academies Trust. After reviewing carefully the details of this case, the appropriate action is for all pupils in the Year 10 bubble to self-isolate.

"In line with the national guidance, your child must stay at home and self-isolate until Saturday 28th November which will be 14 full days since the last possible date of contact.

"If your child is well at the end of the self-isolation period, they can return to school on Monday 30th November.

"Other members of your household can continue their normal activities provided your child does not develop symptoms within this period."

Sam Crowe, Director of Public Health for Dorset and Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Councils said: “We are aware of a confirmed case of COVID-19 at All Saints Church of England Academy in Weymouth. The school is working closely with Public Health Dorset, Dorset Council and Public Health England South West to ensure that all necessary measures are being met.

“All close contacts of the confirmed case have been notified and need to self-isolate for 14 days. Contacts of the confirmed case should get tested if they go on to develop symptoms. Even if people test negative, they must still self-isolate for 14 days.”
