CHRISTMAS markets are popular festive events, but this year many will not take place due to the coronavirus pandemic.

However, Frome Town Council (FTC) are determined to help independent shops by creating a virtual Christmas market for everyone to enjoy.

All creative makers based in or living within the BA11 postcode can be featured on the Discover Frome website.

A spokesperson for FTC said: “We are usually visiting Christmas markets during the festive season to pick up gifts for loved ones.

“Unfortunately, this year, most of these markets have been cancelled, but all is not lost as we have decided to bring a virtual Christmas market to Frome.

“We’ve created two spaces which allow makers and sellers to share their work and let you know how you can buy their wares.

“We are hosting this space for all the creative makers based or living within the BA11 postcode area.

“So, whether you’re looking for the perfect present for a loved one, a secret Santa gift or just fancy treating yourself, there’s sure to be something for everyone.”

FTC have also created a Facebook group for small businesses to sell their products in the run-up to Christmas, so buyers can ask for ideas and sellers can comment with options.

Mayor of Frome, Anita Collier, has already started her Christmas shopping and is keen for residents to support local businesses.

“Let’s not let lockdown stop us supporting our local businesses and independent retailers,” she said.

“Whatever you’re looking for this Christmas, we’re ready to help you find it with these two virtual shopping experiences - why not go online and explore what goodies are on offer.”

FTC are working on these projects in partnership with Frome Chamber of Commerce.
