A BRIDGWATER firm helped the DIY SOS team to transform the lives of Somerset family.

A team of electricians from M-Tech volunteered their time to help the DIY SOS team to transform the home of Chris and Cat sweet and their three disabled children.

Matt Francis, director of M-Tech led all of the electrical design and installation work on the project after volunteering his company’s services at a registration event earlier in the year.

Matt said: “It was tough as it involved nine straight days, but it was such an amazing project to be part of. There was a bit of pressure to get it done in time, but everyone got involved and there was such a good buzz on-site”.

“Normally on a project like that, the trades would all come in at different times and you might not see each other. So it was interesting to see the whole process from start to finish, and everyone working in conjunction. It was great to give something back and a really rewarding thing to be part of”.

The Weston-super-Mare DIY SOS build is due to air on BBC1 on December 3 and another Bridgwater firm also got involved in the project.

Fiona and Leigh from Green Apple Photography were asked by DIY SOS to arrange a photoshoot for the family and use the images all over the house.

“The Sweets came along and were such a lovely family, we had a great time capturing lots of lovely images for them - we had to keep the final images secret from them as the design team at DIY SOS wanted to use them all around the house as a surprise,” Fiona said.

“We were so happy be involved and be able to do our little bit to help such a deserving family.

“We supplied the DIY SOS team with all the printed photo’s for them to use around the house.

“We were lucky to be able to go to the reveal day and seeing the family after the house had been revealed was amazing as they were clearly blown away by what everyone had done.”
