Post Office services have returned to Rosudgeon following the opening of a new store on the main road.

Co-op has now launched its newest supermarket following a £530,000 investment, bringing with it 20 jobs for the area.

Its opening also means the return of a full-time post office, which will be based inside the Co-op and will be open throughout store hours, seven days a week, from 7am to 11pm each day.

Post Office Ltd said this represented an extra 59 hours on what had previously been offered.

An outreach post service had been provided from the Church Room at Perranuthnoe since February, after the postmaster at Rame Cross stepped in to offer temporary cover on Wednesday afternoons.

It followed the closure of the previous nearby branch at Touring Motor Services, Rosudgeon, in January this year, due to the redevelopment of the site.

Now customers will be able to post letters and parcels, collect and return online shopping items, withdraw cash and check balances for all the main UK banks.

Mike Ball, Post Office partner account executive, said: “We are delighted to have restored a full-time Post Office service to Rosudgeon as we know how important a post office is to a community.

"The branch is also open much longer hours than before for the convenience of customers.”

Rosudgeon Co-op store manager Steve Badcock has also welcomed the opening of the new branch, which will run on 100 per cent renewable electricity and includes customer car parking, an in-store bakery and a Costa Coffee Express, as well as the usual mix of fresh produce, ready meals, ready-to-eat food and everyday essentials.

He said: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to make such a significant investment in Rosudgeon and look forward to serving our community.

"The store has a great look and feel, and we have worked to develop the range, choice, products and services locally that will create a really compelling offer and enable the store team to serve the community quickly, easily, safely and, conveniently.”

Students with a TOTUM card - the new name for NUS Extra – will get a ten per cent discount, while the store is also offering Co-op’s Community Shopping Card for those self-isolating or who have been instructed to stay at home.

This makes it easier for other people to shop and pay for essentials on their behalf. Cards can be purchased or topped-up by calling 0800 029 4592, enabling friends, families, neighbours or volunteers to shop for someone else in store.

Co-op members also received 2p in every pound they spend on Co-op branded products added to their membership account balance, with a further two per cent donated to community causes.
