A CALENDAR to celebrate the beauty of Mendip has been created to raise money to end homelessness.

Matt and Jill Marshall, from Chilcompton, have designed a calendar for 2021 with proceeds being donated to Roots Connections, based in Stratton on the Fosse.

The Chilcompton Calendar 2021 features 12 images of well-known scenes and buildings in and around Mendip.

“Matt’s illustrations had been so well received among our circle of friends, with one or two suggesting that we should produce a calendar depicting images from around the village,” said Mrs Marshall.

“We thought that was a great idea and started to look for a local charity or community organisation we could donate proceeds to – that’s when Root Connections came up.

“Each image, which starts off as a photograph, looks to re-create one of Matt’s favourite scenes from the village and takes around eight hours per image to create.

“It really is a labour of love. But one we have thoroughly enjoyed being involved with and hope very much will raise invaluable funds for Roots, particularly at this time of year.”

Root Connections produces organically grown fruit, vegetables and seasonal flowers for sale at local markets and for home delivery – with all proceeds supporting and improving the health and well-being of those who are homeless or rough sleeping in Mendip.

Suzanne Addicott, founder and director at Roots, added: “When Jill first contacted us during the first lockdown with their idea, we were delighted and so grateful.

“The opportunity seemed to fit so perfectly with our ethos – that by making connections and cultivating relationships, we can positively grow community for the benefit of those who really need it.”
