THERE will be no expensive Christmas tree at a popular shopping centre this month - instead, the money will be given to local charities.

Clarks Village has announced it's latest Christmas initiative, which gives guests the opportunity to nominate a local charity to receive a donation.

There will still be festive lights at the shopping centre, but no Christmas tree, as the £1,000 usually spent on the tree will be given to charity.

Landsec, the owner of Clarks Village, has doubled the donation, meaning there will be £2,000 to distribute.

Chris Davis, centre director at Clarks Village, said: “We’re delighted to announce our Christmas charity campaign for 2020. This has been a challenging year for many, so we’re pleased that we’re able to give guests the chance to help make a difference to a local cause that is close to their heart.

"Whilst we know how much our visitors love our annual tree, we wanted to make a donation instead as charities need our help more than ever this year.

"We can’t wait to see the nominations from guests and we look forward to announcing the list of charities just before Christmas.”

Nominations are open until December 18 and the winners will be announced on the week of December 21.
