PLANS are underway in Somerset to prepare for a mass Covid-19 vaccination roll out from next week.

Since the Government authorised the Pfizer vaccination, Somerset County Council (SCC) had hundreds of staff ready to assist the program and identify vaccination locations.

SCC are also working with the NHS to make sure the vaccine is available to people in Somerset in a planned way and inline with national guidance.

“We welcome the news the 95% effective Pfizer vaccination has been approved,” said Trudi Grant, public health director at SCC.

“Following months of rigorous clinical trials, medical experts have concluded the vaccination meets its strict standards of ‘safety, quality and effectiveness’.

“This is a real turning point in the fight against the disease and will help save thousands of lives. We expect the first supplies of vaccination here in Somerset imminently and will keep you informed when we have more information to share.”

SCC will also be sharing information about the coronavirus crisis in Somerset, with the help of a former BBC television journalist.

They have teamed up with Clinton Rogers to provide a weekly Covid Catch Up video.

The videos will provide information and advice, and Somerset residents are invited to send in questions.

Councillor Clare Paul, Somerset County Council Cabinet Member for Public Health said: “It is fantastic to have Clinton Rogers on board to present the new Covid Catch Up videos which will deliver key information and messages to Somerset residents in a clear and relatable way.

“The Covid Catch Up videos are designed to provide accurate and up to date local information to help stop the spread of coronavirus, and all support in sharing the videos is welcomed.”
