A MILVERTON teenager is appealing to villagers to help spread some festive cheer to people who are homeless this Christmas.
Hattie Bawden, 14, is asking for donations of items so she can make up hampers to pass on to homeless charity Open Door, based in Taunton.
Hattie, who attends Kingsmead School, in Wiveliscombe, hit on the idea after fundraising events for the charity were called off due to Covid-19 restrictions.
She said: "The village usually holds festivities at Christmas to raise money for Open Door, but that's not going ahead this year because of the pandemic.
"So I've organised it for our community to donate items to make into hampers for the homeless.
"I'm looking for warm clothes such as hats, scarves and gloves and long-lasting food.
"There have been quite a few donations already, but the more the merrier."
Donations should be left at St Michael's Church, in Milverton, by Sunday, December 20, after when the hampers will be made up and handed over to Open Door for distribution.
