BURGER fans rejoice! A new McDonald’s restaurant has opened in Wellington.

The eatery on Buckland Road was officially opened today (December 9) by Mike and Will Tizzard, the organic milk farmers who supply McDonald's restaurants with semi-skimmed milk.

It follows significant investment from franchisee Gregg Fox, who already owns seven restaurants across Cornwall, Devon and Somerset.

The restaurant has created more than 90 jobs and operates as a single-storey drive-thru restaurant.

It has 140 seating spaces and 45 car parking spaces, including two accessible spaces and two waiting bays. There is covered cycle parking spaces for eight bicycles.

Mr Fox said: “We are delighted to be opening this new restaurant and we’re so looking forward to getting to know the local community.

"We’re especially looking forward to welcoming Will and Mike Tizzard to our restaurant on opening day.

"It’s important to us to shine a light on the work they do to provide quality, local ingredients to us and we look forward to showing them around the Wellington restaurant. Our farmers are our most essential ingredient.

"We’d also like to thank our new customers in advance for their support and patience as we navigate and adapt to the safest ways of working during the pandemic.”

Somerset County Gazette:

To help create a safe experience for everyone, the restaurant will be opening with several measures in place to help keep employees and customers safe.

These measures include social distancing in the kitchens and service areas, Perspex screens at Drive-Thru windows, employees wearing protective equipment and floor markings.

The eatery will operate with a smaller than usual team and customers are encouraged to pay by contactless payment methods and use the My McDonald’s App to order and pay ahead.

The new restaurant will boast all the latest innovations from McDonald’s, focused on improving and enhancing the restaurant experience for customers. Self-service kiosks mean visitors can order at a speed that suits them, while easily accessing nutritional information and making informed food choices. Digital Drive-Thru menu boards will also be in operation.

Mike Tizzard, an organic dairy producer, runs Tizzard Farms in Dorset. The family-run business operates five separate organic dairy farms. He says: “We’re so proud to be supplying the new McDonald’s restaurant with our organic milk. I have been farming in the local area since I was 16 and know how important it is to use local suppliers to strengthen the community whilst sourcing the best ingredients.

"It’s been a challenging year for many, so it’s great to be able to come together with McDonald’s and celebrate the opening of the new restaurant.”
