FOUR fire crews were sent to tackle a kitchen fire in Wells yesterday (December 27) evening.

Fire engines from Wells, Glastonbury and Street were initially sent to the scene after reports of a kitchen fire at around 6.10pm.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Fire appliances from Wells, Glastonbury and Street attended a domestic property fire in Wells which originated from the oven in the kitchen.

"Upon arrival, crews confirmed the property to be heavily smoke logged and got to work with four breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, one safety jet and thermal imaging cameras.

"Crews requested a further fire appliance from Somerton for additional personnel."

The British Red Cross also attended this incident to help assist the family who occupied the property, the spokesperson added.

The cause of fire is believed to have been accidental.
