POLICE rescued a woman from a river in Taunton this afternoon (January 12).

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service were called to the incident at 3.42pm, near the Obridge Viaduct.

Working with the police and ambulance, firefighters helped to carry out first aid.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson said: "Emergency services were called to the location at about 3.40pm in relation to a concern for welfare."

The woman was then taken to hospital by ambulance.

"Yes we responded to a call at 3.38pm about a patient in water near the Obridge Viaduct, Taunton," said a spokesperson for South Western Ambulance Service. 

"We treated the patient and transported them to hospital by land ambulance for further care."
