THERE were 234 positive tests for Covid-19 in Somerset in the latest daily figures just issued on behalf of the Government - equivalent to around one every six minutes.

Somerset West and Taunton had the most new confirmed cases with 83 in 24 hours.

There were 62 confirmed cases in South Somerset, 57 in Sedgemoor and 32 in Mendip.

The totals in each district since the pandemic began have risen to 3,482 in South Somerset; 3,831 in SWT; 3,575 in Sedgemoor and 2,190 in Mendip.

The overall total in the county council area since the start of the crisis has to 13,078.

The rolling seven-day rate of infection has gone up in three of the districts and dipped slightly in one district and gone up a little in the other three.

In South Somerset the rate rose to 284.5 per 100,000, up from 279.2 in the previous day's figures; it was down to 384.2 in SWT per 100,000 from the previous figure of 388.7; Sedgemoor's latest infection rate is 428.6 per 100,000, up from 427.8; and Mendip stands at 279.4 per 100,000, up from 268.2.
