THERE were 231 positive Covid-19 tests in Somerset in the latest daily figures issued by the Government.

The total of new confirmed cases was made up of 87 in Somerset West and Taunton and, strangely, 48 cases in each of the other three districts in the county council area.

The district totals have now gone up to 3,646 in South Somerset; 4,164 in Somerset West and Taunton; 3,760 in Sedgemoor; and 2,347 in Mendip.

The rate of infection in the latest rolling seven-day figures has gone down in three of the districts and only risen in one.

The rates per 100,000 of population are 261.4 in South Somerset (down from 268.5); 361 in SWT (up from 343.6); 341.8 in Sedgemoor (down from 365.3); and 260.4 in Mendip (down from 272.5).
