THE construction on 90 new homes as part of a housing development in North Dorset has begun.
Phase one of Taylor Wimpey Southern Counties development, Gillingham Lakes, has recently begun after contracts for the first phase of the Gillingham site were completed in late December with phase two contracts also exchanged.
Phase one has detailed planning permission for 90 homes with 20 per cent of these allocated for affordable housing.
Located off Addison Close, the upcoming development will consist of a range of two-to four-bedroom homes in a number of styles and provide buying opportunities for anyone looking to get onto the property ladder.
Gillingham Lakes will also feature large areas of public open space adjoining the River Lodden.
As part of its planning permission, Taylor Wimpey Southern Counties will make significant financial contributions towards improving local infrastructure and community facilities.
A contribution of over £1,400,000 will be made to Dorset Council which will include over £132,000 to a community hall, £530,000 to support local education, over £70,000 towards Hardings Lane Recreation Ground and over £40,000 towards a sports area.
Additionally, contributions will be made for footpaths, bus stops and local areas of play.
A sales outlet for Gillingham Lakes is scheduled to open in Autumn 2021 and Taylor Wimpey Southern Counties has submitted its outline planning application for 115 units (25 per cent on-site affordable) on phase two; aiming to complete on the phase two land in June 2022.
