THE Covid-19 infection rate has dipped in three of Somerset's districts, although there was a noted rise in the fourth.

Yesterday's figures showed a total of 245 positive tests for the virus across the county council area.

Of those new confirmed cases, 91 were in Somerset West and Taunton, which has had an overall 4,315 confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic.

There were 69 positive tests in South Somerset (overall total 3,763); 29 new confirmed cases in Sedgemoor ( overall total 3,835); and 56 in Mendip (overall total 2,449).

The latest rate of infection per 100,000 of population in the county council's districts based on the rolling seven-day figures is 237 in South Somerset (down from 240); 375.9 in SWT (up from 359); 341.2 in Sedgemoor (down from 341.8); and 247.4 in Mendip (down from 260.4).

One death was recorded in Mendip in yesterday's figures.

The death toll from the virus in each district is 114 in South Somerset; 82 in SWT; 97 in Sedgemoor; 95 in Mendip. The overall number of deaths in the county since the start of the pandemic is now 388. The deaths are of people who had tested positive in the previous 28 days and can be of any cause.
