THE Dorset Knob Throwing and Frome Valley Food Festival has been cancelled for the second year in a row due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The event, which is held every year on the first Sunday in May in the Dorset village of Cattistock, sees people throw Dorset Knob biscuits as far as possible, as well as a knob and spoon race, knob painting, guess the weight of the knob.
Other activities at the festival, dedicated to the traditional Dorset biscuit, usually includes knob eating, knob putting, and knob painting.
Organisers say the decision to cancel this year's event was 'reluctantly made' due to current Covid-19 restrictions, but will hopefully return on Sunday, May 1, 2022.
Ian Gregory, chair of the Dorset Knob Throwing Committee, said: "The Committee took the view that to continue in these circumstances could put people’s lives at risk and felt that they had a duty of care towards all visitors, volunteers, and stallholders.
"The Committee also felt strongly that the essence and joy of Dorset Knob Throwing is that it is fun – great fun.
"Without the freedom to mix openly the spontaneity and appeal of this event will be lost."
The event, described by organisers as a 'zany, quintessentially British event', was attended by more than 8,000 people in 2019.
