A PLANNING application for 22 homes in Taunton has been approved.
The Fairwater Yard site, on Higher Palmerston Road, is 1.25 acres of land with various derelict buildings.
The current buildings are set to be demolished to make room for the 22 homes, parking spaces and a children's play area.
The application has been submitted by Greenslade Taylor Hunt on behalf of Gadd Properties Limited.
And the plans suggest there will be a mixture of houses and flats.
The site was initially earmarked as employment land, however after marketing the land for 15 months with little viable interested, it was suggested the site was not suitable for commercial use.
Somerset West and Taunton Council approved the application this month, subject to various conditions.
The conditions include: the development will begin within three years, a new footpath link to the current public right of way will be provided and so on.
Some residents are on board with the plans, but many are concerned about the increase in traffic and parking spaces.
"The new roundabout already has poor visibility and there have been several close calls in terms of collisions," said one resident.
"I am concerned that with more houses and therefore more traffic this will just get worse.
"A further concern is parking for residents in Staplegrove Road.
"There are already insufficient spaces for the number of vehicles and I have frequently been unable to park when returning home in the evening and I am concerned that this will become even worse."
