I WAS very pleased to read of the Taunton 2040 vision - clear evidence that there is a real intent to make our town a better place to live in the future.

More measured consideration, sadly, left me disappointed.

The main strategic thrust seems to be: build more housing, reduce car parking, create a few paths.

Almost completely absent is how this will happen.

Granting planning permission is easy - developers will happily build property for sale and profit.

This must be balanced with a strategy for job creation, transport infrastructure, attracting business and people to a more vibrant, safe and prosperous place to live.

Developers are expected to fund their own projects.

Of the £1bn touted, how much is publicly financed for implementation of what needs to be a much more ambitious and coherent plan?
