TWO sports clubs have joined forces to raise money for The Butterfly Book Award - a charity set up in memory of a West Somerset teacher who died.

Watchet Town Football Club and Watchet Cricket Club set up a charity fundraiser - 555forButterfly.

They are encouraging people to join in by either walking, cycling or running 5km, donating £5 and then nominating 5 other people to take part.

People are also asked to then nominate a book, as The Butterfly Book Award, set up in memory of Emma Harris (Sully), recognises children who put in effort and are determined at Knights Templar School in Watchet, by rewarding them with a book.

Mrs Harris was an English teacher who sadly passed away just before her 30th birthday, after a battle with cancer.

The event was set up by Callum Knight, Ollie Saddington and Dominic Bowden.

Mr Knight said he was "overwhelmed" by everyone's generosity.

"This event has not only raised money for an amazing charity but has brought us all together during this difficult time," he added.

"The charity is one very close to our hearts here in Watchet which does such fantastic work for our young people.

"We would like to raise money, to help The Butterfly Book Award continue to deliver this wonderful initiative, and allow them to roll it out to other schools in the area.

"With us so dependant on technology these days, I think it’s great to see them encouraging the use of books."

To take part, you must complete the 5km, donate £5 via the JustGiving page, post on social media using the hashtag #555forButterfly and nominate five people, and the recommend your favourite book.
