A MAN has died following a crash on the A303 in Somerset yesterday evening (Sunday).

Police say the 24-year-old was involved in a fatal collision between a car and a heavy goods vehicle.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

His family has been informed.

The incident took place on the A303 near South Petherton at around 5.30pm.

The stretch of the A303 between South Petherton and Ilminster was closed overnight for investigations to be carried out.

Police, ambulance and fire and rescue workers attended the scene.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson said: "The driver of the car, a 24-year-old man, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

"His family have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.

"Officers would like to hear from anyone who saw what happened."
