REMEMBER when a few of the pubs in Station Road used to have extended opening hours on Saturdays?
In the old days when pubs shut in the afternoon and only opened until 10.30pm in the winter and 11pn in summer, some of the pubs were allowed to open longer when Taunton's livestock market was on.
The Plough Inn was one of those who welcomed the farming community on those Saturdays.
Does anyone remember the licensee at the time of Steve Wild's photo - Clifford C. Skinner?
Next door to the Plough, which is still going strong, although currently closed for lockdown, was David Stroud watchmaker and jeweller, and next to that was Ralph Colman cycle shop.
The latter moved a few doors down until the business folded a couple of years ago.
