FIRE crews tackled a "large" barn blaze on the Brendon Hills last night (February 23).

Six fire engines, mas well as a water carrier from Bridgwater, attended the incident in Brompton Regis at 6.15pm.

The barn has been 75 per cent damaged by fire.

"Fire engines from Wiveliscombe, Williton, Dulverton, Taunton, Bampton, Minehead and a water carrier from Bridgwater attended alongside Officers," said a spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue.

"On arrival one barn approximately 50m x 50m containing 80 tonnes of straw, three tonnes of feather and farm machinery was fully involved in fire.

"Crews got to work with compressed air foam systems and four jets.

"Several appliances remain on site dampening down hotspots and preventing escalation."
