WHAT are your thoughts about the news from Boris Johnson this week about the pathway out of lockdown? I must admit I think it all makes sense. Obviously, people will want this to happen as quickly as possible but after what we have all been through, it needs to be done in the safest way.

The first thing I thought was how apt it was all happening in my favourite season – spring. I always think of spring as the season of renewal – flowers bursting into bloom with so many beautiful varieties in a myriad of exquisite colours and scents. Sunny skies and the opportunity to get out and experience them all.

After lockdown we will be able to do this again. Thank goodness. Getting out and about in the fresh air is so beneficial for our health and wellbeing. Hopefully, this will start to heal all the scars of lockdown. We will be able to meet up with friends and family (within current guidelines for the time being).

My mind went into overdrive planning when to see family and friends again. Where to go? What to do? After so long of having no end in sight or the ability to plan anything it felt a bit overwhelming to be honest.

But it just feels so good to be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I hope we never forget the people who have led us through this situation and I don’t necessarily mean the politicians or the NHS – I mean our communities, local businesses, and all the local volunteers who have gone above and beyond to help other people. True local heroes.

Another thing to remember is to carry on supporting local businesses wherever we can. Use local butchers, fruit and veg shops, bakeries etc.

My main business was all about stand-up comedy and entertainment. I have not been able to book any shows since March 2020! Just this week I have had a lot of enquiries about booking shows in Somerset again. Some fantastic names and shows to look forward to. Remember that ‘Laughter is the best medicine!’
