IT’S good news that Mendip District Council has listened to local residents and is at last putting forward credible plans for a network of safe off-road paths suitable for cyclist, walkers and others.
There are so many good reasons for reducing the number of car journeys we make and promoting sustainable forms of transport.
It's better for our health, better for the environment, and helps combat climate change.

People will only take up alternative means of transport, however, if they can do so safely, which means investing a fraction of the sums we spend on roads on creating and upgrading off-road routes.
Mendip’s plans look promising. Let’s hope it can carry them through.
