POLICE have asked parents to remind their children of the regulations after discovering large groups of young people in Taunton.

They have also said damage has been caused at Taunton Vale Sports Club on many occasions, and that there is a large amount of rubbish being left on these green spaces.

"Unfortunately PCSO Lyndsay discovered a large number of young people out and about in big groups hanging around in parks and open spaces in the Staplegrove area of town," a spokesperson for Taunton Neighbourhood Policing said.

"Damage has been caused at Taunton Vale Sports Club on a number of occasions, resulting in some equipment being unusable once the lockdown ends and sporting activities are allowed to take place once again.

"And the amount of rubbish is just unacceptable."

Taunton Neighbourhood Policing said they know this has been a "difficult year" but are urging people who are breaching the regulations to "consider their actions".

The spokesperson added: "Do you know where your children are and what they are up to?

"Please speak with them and remind them that until the end of March, they can only meet with one other outside of their household for exercise, from the 8th they can meet that one person and enjoy a drink or a picnic with them.

"Again we are aware that the vast majority are doing their bit during the pandemic and we thank them for that.

"We will be out and about again today using a variety of transport options to carry out anti-social behaviour patrols in known locations."
