THE northbound carriageway on the M5 between junction 26 and 25 remains closed following a crash this morning (March 13).

The collision involves an overturned HGV that has caused "substantial" barrier damage and a diesel spillage.

The driver has been taken to hospital, but his injuries do not appear to be life-threatening or life-changing.

Avon and Somerset Police have released an update on the incident, stating that the Northbound carriageway is closed, but all traffic has been released.

Lane three southbound is also closed.

"All traffic has been released after an overturned lorry blocked the M5 northbound between Wellington and Taunton today, Saturday, March 13," a spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said.

"The driver was taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

"The carriageway is fully closed pending recovery and repairs, with a diversion via the A38. Lane three southbound is also closed."
