FIVE members of staff at a joinery in Somerset have tested positive for coronavirus.

MH Joinery, in Bridgwater, now have nine members of staff self-isolating.

Five have received positive test results, three are awaiting formal tests results and one is self isolating as requested by NHS Test and Trace.

The company have said they have only had four people self-isolate since the start of the pandemic - and so they say this sudden increase is a "cause for concern".

"All four of these previous cases came from outside sources," said a spokesperson for MH Joinery.

"In two of these cases, members of team of the infected employee were told to isolate for 10 days. And fortunately no further infections arose.

"We carry out temperature checks on production staff and we have just introduced flow testing in line with the government guidelines.

"We had a little difficulty obtaining test kits initially but we are getting there now."

There are more than 100 employees at MH Joinery. The company specialises in the manufacture of tailor-made, timber sliding sash windows, casements, external doors and staircases.
