A CAMPING lodge in Shepton Mallet has been destroyed after a fire broke out.

A fire engine from Shepton Mallet, Wells and Glastonbury attended the incident on Windsor Hill Lane.

The fire, which happened around 2.30pm yesterday (April 6), is believed to have been accidental.

"On arrival crews confirmed one camping lodge to be well alight and got to work to extinguish using two breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, one thermal imaging camera and small tools," said a spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue.

"The hut was 85 per cent damaged by fire and 100 per cent damaged by smoke."
