A WOMAN has sadly died after a crash near Peasedown St John this morning (April 7) - and a man has been arrested.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the collision involving a car and the woman on the A367 at Clandown around 6am.

The 20-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

Formal identification is yet to take place, but the woman's family have been informed are are being supported by specially trained officers.

A 19-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and remains in police custody.

"The road is currently closed and is expected to be for some time while collision investigators examine the scene," said a spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police.

"Motorists are advised to find an alternative route.
