A FLORIST has opened in Taunton today (April 13).

Laura Richards, from Taunton, started her career after she created displays for her sister's wedding in 2018.

She has now opened a florist at Prockters Farm, next to Silver's Pantry, in Monkton Heathfield.

"I really enjoy it, it can be stressful but I didn’t expect it to take off the way it has," she said.

"Last year, it was my main year in business as many people had booked their weddings for 2020.

"I did four weddings that were small, and apart from mother's day, I didn't have any other business and I wasn't entitled to any help because my business was so new.

"In January this year, I decided to put everything into the business and now I am so busy, I can’t believe it.

"And so the shop is the next step for me. I've been working from home and the business is just too busy for me to carry on at home.

"I will be doing weddings and funerals, as well as bespoke bouquets, gifts, plants and ready made bouquets."

Miss Richards is looking forward to opening at Prockters Farm, as she says the area is "peaceful" with a "nice atmosphere".

She knows floristry can be a "massive" part of someone's day and is looking froward to welcoming new and old customers to the shop.

"Over the past couple of years there hasn’t been that support for the wedding industry at all," she added.

"I am hoping from June onwards we can go back to having bigger weddings – some of my brides have postponed five times!

"I am hoping the summer will be a massive come back for the wedding industry.

"I am definitely glad I became a florist – after the year I had last year I can’t believe I am where I am now, it is really surreal.

"But I wouldn’t be where I am today without my continued customers and my family and friends have been absolutely incredible."
