POLICE cordoned off a street in a Somerset town for a period to carry out a "low level rescue" this morning (Wednesday)
Fire engines, police cars and an ambulance were at the scene of the incident, which unfolded in Upper Church Road, Weston-super-Mare shortly before 11am.
Police appealed to the public not to be alarmed by the presence of so many emergency vehicles.
A spokesperson for Avon Fire and Rescue later said: "We were called at 10.49am today to rescue a man who was later transferred to the care of the ambulance service.
"The incident is now over."
During the incident, police in North Somerset put out a social media message appealing to people to stay calm.
The tweet from @ASPNorthSom said: "Upper Church Road in Weston is currently closed due to a low level rescue by the Ambulance and Fire service. Please don't be alarmed at the number of vehicles in attendance."
