RESIDENTS in Nynehead are outraged after plans were submitted for 11 new units at a care home - and so we visited the site to find out more about these plans.

Revised plans for new units at Nynehead Court Estate were submitted earlier this month.

An application was submitted last year for units at Court Farm Gardens, but the plans have since been adapted to include the estate as well.

Nynehead Court Estate wants to build seven two-bed close care units at Nynehead Court, where the current ancillary buildings are, as well as a car park amongst the new trees that have been planted on site.

Frank Martin, a director of Nynehead Court, said they removed the Spotted Laurel trees as they were "very invasive".

"These trees created a dessert for wildlife," he said.

"So we are opening it up and making sure we are bringing wildlife in. It is our aim to make wildlife a priority.

“And so, according to the new plans we have submitted, this will be a green car park area.

"The cars will be ‘wedged in’ between the trees so you won’t see them as much and it wont be so intrusive and full of cars.”

There are also plans for Court Farm Gardens as well. The application includes the conversion of the Grade II Listed farmhouse into two units, as well as four extra units on the edge of the walled garden.

The walled garden itself could be restored to its former glory, providing residents and staff with somewhere to grow plants and vegetables, if plans are approved.

John Bailey, also a director of Nynehead Court, said: “Since our original planning application was submitted in July 2020 we have carried out extensive consultations with the relevant consultees including Nynehead Parish Council, which have proved to be very helpful and constructive.

"Our revised application takes into account the feedback we received, whilst keeping at its heart the need for additional mews properties and environmental and ecological enhancement of the estate for the local community.”

The planning application is set to be discussed by Somerset West and Taunton Council who will make a decision on the plans.
