TECHNOLOGY and data company Synergy Cloud – part of Taunton-based Claims Consortium Group – has acquired the majority stake in WeatherNet, the foremost weather data provider used by 90 per cent of the insurance industry.

The Synergy Cloud deal with WeatherNet was completed on Friday (April 30) for an undisclosed sum.

The move represents the further expansion of the data and technology arm of the Claims Consortium Group business.

It highlights where the group sees future growth opportunities as it builds on its strong-hold providing industry-leading data and software solutions to the UK insurance market and beyond.

Claims Consortium chief executive and founder Jeremy Hyams said: “We are thrilled to welcome WeatherNet to Synergy Cloud and the group.

"As one of the most recognised and respected technology brands in the industry, the WeatherNet team have been pioneering claims data for over 25 years.

"The acquisition supports the group’s wider growth strategy, enabling us to add a new dimension to our technology portfolio.”

The acquisition comes as Synergy Cloud also prepares to launch a ground-breaking sophisticated workflow technology that delivers an end-to-end solution for claims management.

Mr Hyams added: "Designed by claims handlers, for claims handlers, this is first-of-its-kind, next generation claims technology.

"We’re harnessing the mass of technology and data talent we have within the business to revolutionise the way claims and other services are managed.

"The acquisition of WeatherNet, coupled with our product launch, adds to the growing cluster of exciting technology businesses around the Taunton and wider South West region.”

Established in 1996, Claims Consortium Group has grown from three to over 270 employees.

It is one of the industry’s leading providers of property claims handling and claims workflow technologies.

Mr Hyams says he is passionate about supporting the development of Taunton and the South West as a technology hub and is the co-founder of Digital Somerset, a community-driven group of individuals and businesses passionate about creating an active cluster for the digital community in the Somerset area.
