LIVE author events are set to return this month in line with the latest government guidance.

Brendon Books have organised a talk with Ursula Franklin and Hazel Prior at the Brewhouse Theatre on May 19 at 6.30pm.

Ursula has always loved penguins, but when her world fell apart in 2012 they took on a new significance for her.

She embarked on a mission to see every species of penguin in their natural habitat, a journey that has taken her to some of the remotest places in the southern hemisphere.

During her ongoing quest, Ursula has combined her favourite penguin photographs with amusing captions and collated these into a small yet hugely inspiring book, ‘The joy of penguins’.

Ursula’s portion of the evening will include a charming slide show and short talk about her penguin mission.

Hazel Prior found inspiration for her second book from her friend Ursula’s story. ‘Away with the Penguins’ features the feisty and unstoppable 86-year-old heroine, Veronica McCreedy, and her own journey to enlightenment in Antarctica.

Following Ursula’s talk, Hazel will give a reading with her harp and explain how she researched and wrote the book.

Tickets for this event cost £9.50. To book visit thebrewhouse.net.

Brendon Books are also hosting a nature writing event in June with Anita Roy and Graham Ryan.

This will be the first new event at the bookshop since lockdown in March 2020. However, numbers will be limited to just 30 people.

You also have to book in advance for the event on June 21 at 6.30pm.

The tenth Taunton Literary Festival is also set to take place this year, after it was cancelled in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The first event of the literary festival will be with Paul Mason and his book How to Stop Fascism.

This will be on September 4 at 7pm.
