TESCO has introduced a strict parking regime at its main store in Taunton.

The company has brought in a set of rules to ensure there is enough room for customers to park in the car park outside the Wellington Road store.

People leaving their vehicles in the car park outside the Wellington Road store who are not customers will be fined £70.

The £70 fine will also apply to:

  • anyone whose car is parked there for longer than 90 minutes;
  • drivers who return within an hour of leaving;
  • people who park in disable bay without displaying a blue badge;
  • people who park in a parent and child bay without any children having travelled in the vehicle;
  • motorists parking out of the marked bays;
  • car owners using an electric charging space without charging their vehicle.

A spokesperson for Tesco said: “In car parks where there is a great demand for spaces we place a time limit on parking so that we can best manage the car park in the interests of our customers.

“We are moving to a 90-minute maximum stay at our Taunton Superstore because customers have experienced ongoing difficulty in finding spaces, and this will help us to manage the spaces that we have more effectively.”

The car park is covered by Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras while there will also be patrols to check people are abiding by the rules.
