DRIVERS are being advised to "plan ahead" following peak time delays this week on a main road into and out of Taunton.

Tailbacks have been caused by the closure of the road between Tudor Way and Yallands Hill, in Monkton Heathfield.

The road is set to be closed for a further ten weeks as work to complete the £3million relief road near completion.

The work will see the new road tied into the A3259.

Diversions have been signposted since the work started on Monday of this week, while access has been maintained for people living locally.

A Somerset County Council spokesperson said: “The current closure of the A3259 near Yallands Hill is to enable the developer to carry out essential work to link new housing to the road network.

“The work has been planned, scheduled and publicised by the developer in advance, with a signed diversion is in place.

"We’re working with the developer to minimise disruption as much as possible but drivers are advised to plan ahead, avoid non-essential journeys and avoid peak times where they can.”
