PEOPLE in Creech St Michael will notice a big difference when the village hall re-opens on Monday (May 17).

Many groups are set to return to stage their activities there - and there will be some new ones as well.

A long programme of improvements has been completed.

The toilets have been refurbished and the kitchen totally refitted to cater for parties and functions.

The Cartwright Room now has its own facilities, with a small kitchenette and toilet facility, meaning people no longer have to brave the elements to access the main hall for a cup of coffee of a comfort break.

Somerset County Gazette:

The main hall, newly named Chown Hall, has been decorated and features audio visual equipment and new speakers, along with a hearing loop.

New carpet and flooring has been installed in the kitchen, toilet and foyer areas, while the garden has undergone a makeover.

The weekly produce market, started up during the lockdowns, is back and has moved to a Saturday from 10am to 1pm.

Somerset County Gazette:

It offers a café with drinks and snacks, while the stalls sells cakes, jams and preserves, chutneys and pickles, as well as plants and fresh veg and fruit in season. Organisers are hoping there will also be butter cheese, eggs and fresh bread.

Other local producers are welcome to take a stall and should contact the booking co-ordinator for details.

Somerset County Gazette:

Hall chairman Jan King said: "With all these new facilities it is hoped to start film nights once a month.

"We are looking for a keen film enthusiast would like to help with the organisation of these nights."
