A KILL The Bill protest is taking place in Taunton tomorrow (June 5).

Black Lives Matter (BLM) Taunton, Amnesty International Taunton, BLM Cardiff, the TUC, XR and Labour citizens have organised the event at Market House in the centre of town.

They are protesting against the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill. The Bill criminalises protest deemed a 'public nuisance'.

A spokesperson for BLM Taunton said: "This bill is the government’s attempt to silence our freedom of speech, right to assembly and our democratic right to protest.

"The bill uses uncontroversial and desirable changes to mask its more controversial and draconian measures.

"The bill would lower the threshold for police to impose conditions on static protest and will be able to consider actions by one individual as 'protests'.

"While current regulations require the police to demonstrate that a demonstration could result in serious public disorder, property damage or serious disruption to the life of the community before it can impose restrictions.

"However, the proposed bill would allow the criminalisation of protests that are deemed 'nuisance' and prosecuting attendees because they should have known better."
