SIX fire crews battled a serious blaze in a residential village street last night (June 13).
Three crews from Street, Somerton and Glastonbury were initially sent to a property fire at Compton Dundon just after 9.20pm on Sunday evening.
On route to the incident, firefighters could see a large plume of smoke and requested a further crew, which came from Wells.
The detached two-floor property, of stone and tile construction, was alight, involving the first floor and roof space.
After setting about battling the blaze, additional units were requested to the scene as the entire roof was alight.
"One fire appliance from Martock and one from Yeovil along with the incident command unit from Wiveliscombe and incident support unit from Martock attended," said a fire service spokesperson.
"A number of fire officers were also mobilised to the incident."
Crews worked internally and externally and the gas and electric were isolated.
A spokesperson later added that the 'domestic property', measuring 10m by 3m, was 'severely damaged by fire' and that the cause of the blaze was 'accidental'.
