THE headmaster has cancelled the annual speech day at Wellington School.
Eugene du Toit said the Prime Minister's decision that current Covid-19 guidelines should continue left him with "no choice" but to call off Commemoration Day for the prep and senior schools.
Following Boris Johnson's announcement that restrictions would remain in place until July 19, Mr Toit said he was also scrapping a school ball scheduled for Friday, July 9.
In a letter, Mr du Toit wrote: "Alternative arrangements have been made which will allow us to recognise the remarkable efforts and achievements of children of all ages, and we are determined to ensure that the end of this academic year is marked in an appropriate fashion."
He added that he hopes a planned summer picnic in August for former students and their families will be able to go ahead.
