AS well as celebrate the pride events happening across the town today (July 17), Taunton residents can also 'grab a jab'.

People aged 18 and over are being invited to visit a pop-up vaccination clinic at Taunton's Tourist Information Centre between 1pm and 5pm.

You can drop in for your first Covid-19 vaccine or your second, as long as it has been eight weeks since your first.

Dr Tim Norbury, from Taunton Vale Healthcare, will be running the clinic on Saturday.

“We’ve done really well in Somerset, with high numbers of people taking the opportunity to get their Covid-19 jab so far, but we want to ensure as many people as possible take up the offer of a jab," he said.

“We want to make it as easy as possible for local people to get their jab, so we’re bringing vaccinations to our local community on Saturday, during the pride event.

"If you are shopping, or passing by and have not yet had your first jab, or are due your second after eight weeks or more, please come and see us.

"You can even bring your friends and family if you are nervous, or don’t want to come on your own – everyone is welcome and we have plenty of Pfizer vaccine available.”

There are a variety of vaccination sites in Somerset, as well as many who are holding walk-in clinics in addition to booked appointments.

Gary Risdale, programme manager for the Somerset Covid-19 vaccination programme, added: “Getting both vaccinations is the best way of protecting yourself from serious illness from Covid-19 and it also helps reduce the risk of you spreading the virus that causes Covid-19.

"In Somerset, teams of GPs, vaccinators and volunteers are working very hard to make sure that there are lots of opportunities to access the vaccination programme – so please help us by having both jabs.”
