A MAN who attempted to cause another person harassment, alarm or distress has narrowly avoided a jail sentence.
At a hearing at Taunton Magistrates' Court, Martin Paul McDonagh, 36, of Alton Park, Hillfarrance Road, Hillfarrance, pleaded guilty to using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour.
He was handed a six week prison term suspended for 12 months.
McDonagh was also ordered to pay his victim £100 compensation and a £128 victim surcharge.
GERAINT Sargent, 29, of Lily Road, Frome, admitted driving a goods vehicle or passenger-carrying vehicle at 83mph on the 70mph limit A303 near Chapel Cross.
He was fined £280 with a £32 victim surcharge and £85 costs and he received three penalty points.
