A TAUNTON man has been jailed for attacking another man in the town.

Michael Richard Green pleaded guilty at Taunton Magistrates' Court to assault by beating on April 30.

The court heard that Green, 49, of Meadow Court, Taunton, twice spat in the face of a support worker.

He was sent to prison for six weeks and ordered to pay his victim £128 compensation.

The jail term runs concurrently with a 12-week sentence for breaching a suspended prison sentence order previously imposed for assaulting an on duty police officer last November.

Green received no separate penalty for damaging a fire extinguisher and a fire alarm system, but was ordered to pay £50 compensation.

He was also detained in the courthouse for non-payment of a £753.55 court fine.

A HOMELESS Taunton man has been ordered to pay £350 compensation to a woman whose property he damaged.

Jamie John Rice, 31, who gave his address as East Reach, pleaded guilty to the incident in Bridgwater on April 1.
