JUST in time for the summer holidays, an award-winning Somerset soft play company is ready to open the doors to their latest play centre - and your County Gazette got a sneak preview.

From the creators of Ocean Adventurers, in Cheddar, Space Adventurers Indoor Play in Frobisher Way, Taunton, is now complete.

Today (July 23) they invited VIP guests and their families to test out its play equipment ahead of its official launch tomorrow, so we went along too with two special miniature reporters to put it through its paces.

The centre was officially opened by Mayor of Taunton, Councillor Susan Lees. Cutting the ribbon, she said: "Thank you for inviting me to to the opening ceremony. Having just had a tour of this wonderful building, I wish I was 'this high' again.

"It's absolutely incredible, and a thousand times better than what was here before. So, thank you for the invite and I will now officially declare, Space Adventurers open."

The first thing that strikes you as you enter is the sheer size of the place. Created across the former sites of both AJ’z Activity Centre and Lazer Space it just seems to go on and on.

Grabbing your attention first is the colossal soft play apparatus for ages 5-12 reaching right up to the ceiling and packed full of super-fast slides, tubes, tricky climbs and a space full of giant bouncing balls.

Special reporter, Purple Jones, spent a couple of hours on this section to get a really good feel for the place.

The six-year-old said: "I got lots of exercise climbing up all the steps.

"It was really fun to be up so high and the slides were so fast I shot right off the end!

"I want to go again. Tomorrow."

As you move through the play centre, the section for ages two to four also has plenty of climbing and sliding options as well as giant building blocks and noisy toys around the sides.

Two-year-old Wolfgang Jones went on the slides over and over again, just to make really sure they were up to the task.

He said: "I went on the climbing frame. I liked the blocks in the house and I did go on the slide."

Further down is the baby sensory section including interstellar lighting displays and colourful ball pits.

The surprise at the end of the building is a multilevel role play area which has equipment and dressing up outfits for a variety of scenarios - from fire fighters to hairdressers, vets to shops, youngsters will be able to fully immerse themselves in imaginary play.

Bookings are open now with online booking recommended to guarantee a place when you arrive.
