SCORES of villagers met up to celebrate a meadow bought from a nearby school for the community to enjoy.

More than 150 people attended the event on Saturday at Trull Meadow, previously owned by Queen's College.

The field, which recently yielded its first hay crop since being taken on by Trull Meadow Trust, will be maintained by the Friends of Trull Meadow.

A dog show featuring 50 pooches was organised by Mandy Wilson, of Trull Tails, while an ice cream van was on hand.

Villagers were able to buy seedlings grown from the acorns of the meadow's 600-year-old oak tree and there was a raffle for a magnum of champagne and chocolates.

The trust's Alan Reeve said: "Trull village came together for a very happy afternoon and it is hoped that this will be the first of other occasions when village ownership of this lovely meadow can be celebrated."
